1900 NORTHWEST TERRITORIES - DISTRICT OF ALBERTA

Edmonton and area communities noted in the clippings were part of the Northwest Territories, District of Alberta (as noted above, the province of Alberta came about in 1905).

(July 2)   In Edmonton area baseball, Strathcona topped Sturgeon 9-5 Monday. W. Steeves was the winning hurler.

(July 3)  Strathcona built an easy 8-2 lead and coasted to a 10-6 win over Edmonton in a free-swinging match that produced 29 strikeouts, 17 by Ball of Edmonton, 12 by Buckle of the winners.

(August 31)  The visiting Leduc baseballers blew early leads of 6-2 and 10-5 in suffering a 27-13 shellacking by Edmonton.  The home club came from behind with a pair of six-run innings.

Notwithstanding their defeat, the Leduc players put up an exceptionally strong game for so new a team. F. Garrow, their pitcher, won the commendation of opponents and spectators alike for his very effective work. G.Hardy, who captained the team and played short stop, also did good work.
