(July 1) Red Deer overwhelmed both Calgary and Innisfail to capture the Red Deer Tournament.
At 1:30 p.m. Red Deer defeated Calgary 20-10 and after half an hours rest went up against Innisfail and beat them 10-0. Neither of these teams are in the same class as Red Deer. With the exception of third base Red Deer could not better her field by a pick from the other two nines. The local team are Corkers with the bat, and in the game with Calgary they batted Miller so hard and often that the tin horn sport Calgary appeared to have for manager took him out of the box and put a small boy in to finish the game. McCartney pitched good ball for both games but did not even try to pitch the prettiest. (Alberta Advocate, July 7, 1905)
Red Deer pounded out 19 hits in whipping Calgary. They had a 12-4 lead after eight innings then scored eight runs in the ninth while Calgary rallied for six. McCartney allowed just five hits in going the distance for the winners. He fanned nine. Each team made seven errors.
