1910 SASKATOON CITY BASEBALL LEAGUE

A loosely organized association of four teams joined together to form the 1910 Saskatoon City Baseball League. Although a formal schedule was created, the limited number of game results published suggests that many games were not played or were forsaken instead for challenge clashes/series with a cash prize up for grabs.

TEAMS

High School
International Harvester
Nutanas
Tigers

(July 22)  The Saskatoon Tigers edged the Internationals 6-4 Saturday evening in the first game of a series for a $200 prize.

A strong, cold wind bothered play at the Nutana baseball grounds. The Tigers had the best of the play and were two to the good when the game was called in the 6th inning.  Umpire Kerr ended the contest as the sand was blowing in clouds over the diamond making it difficult to even see the ball.

Bailey (W) and Hewer
Armstrong (L) and Benzie

Nothing was found in editions of the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix to validate that a second or third game between these two amateur clubs was ever played and that the outlandish prize money offered was ever paid out.

To put things into perspective, the $200 payout for the winner of the three-game challenge series between the Tigers and International Harvester teams of the 1910 Saskatoon City Baseball League would be roughly equivalent to $5,580 in 2026 Canadian dollars.
