SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN LEAGUE
Boasting an impressive mark of .481 in 14 games, including 52 official at-bats, Revere "Babe" Brossard of the Regina Balmorals has carried off the individual batting honors of the 1931 Southern League. The official statistics show Brossard well ahead of the runner-up, Ted Schwindt of Milestone, who came in with a .384 average in 22 games.
Milestone had a number of replays because of tie games which resulted in Schwindt's inflated game total. Schwindt has a case for being regarded as the real leader, however, having played the entire season. Furthermore, he led the circuit with 36 hits and 44 total bases. Moose Jaw's Billy Hodgkinson picked up 9 doubles to lead the circuit in that category. Joe Haberman of the Regina Balmorals hit 4 triples to easily take the crown in that category while Milestone's Dave Clayton was the top thief, pilfering 16 bases. Clayton also was tops in the circuit with 21 runs scored. There was no clear-cut home run king as no one player hit more than one circuit clout.
Wilfred "Lefty" Pennington, ace of the Moose Jaw All-Stars pitching staff, is the top hurler in the 1931 Southern League. Twirling in 16 games, he yielded less than 2 earned runs a game. In addition, he struck out 139 batters. Next is Floyd White of the Milestone Sioux who took part in 14 contests, pitching the most innings, 124, while fanning 115
