Left - Vancouver Asahis star lefty hurler Kenichi “Ty” Suga who played and also managed the team in his tenure of some twenty years from the 1920s into the 1941s when the team was disbanded.

There were two main leagues in Vancouver in 1937, the Vancouver Senior League (Arnold & Quigley, Athletics, Asahis, United Distillers) and the Commercial League (Asahi, Grant Gunn, Lowney's, Merritt-Gordons, Patricias). Asahis started in the Senior loop but dropped out to play in the Commercial circuit and won the league title.

On the outskirts, the Dewdney League had four teams - Coquitlam, Hammond, Ioco and Mission.
