Gus Kyle of the Regina Caps batted .552 to easily capture the1948 batting title in the Southern League. Kyle finished more than 120 points ahead of the runner-up, teammate Frank Smith, at .429. Elmer Ekdahl of Weyburn was third with a .419 mark.
Veterans Ralph Hogg of Weyburn Beavers and Frank Germann of the Notre Dame Hounds were the leading hurlers, both finishing with 4-0, won-lost records. Hogg completed all four of his starts, while German tossed complete games in four of five starting assignments. Elmer Torgerson of the Moose Jaw Oilmen won the most games, five. BIG FOUR INTER-CITY LEAGUE
Calgary Buffaloes playing manager Jimmy Gibson has won the batting title for the1948 Big Four Inter-City League. Gibson's final mark of .373 was nearly 20 points ahead of the runner-up, Bill Price of Edmonton Eskimos. Price topped the league in hits, 100, and was second in stolen bases, with 42. Ernie Choukalos of Purity was third in the batting race, at .345.
Archie Wilder of Purity crushed 11 home runs to lead the sluggers. Gibson was tops in doubles, with 20. Des O'Connor of the Buffs led in runs scored, 74, and triples, 7. Babe Work of the Buffaloes and Ernie Beland of Purity tied for the most RBI, each with 59. Tony Chulla again led in steals, with 54.
Jerry Seaman of the Edmonto Eskimos was the top hurler, tying Eddie Belter of Edmonton Eskimos for the most wins, 12, and leading in winning percentage, .857. Lloyd Bradley of Calgary Buffaloes was close behind with an 11-3 record. Belter was tops in games started, 17, and complete games, 15. Jack Stover of the Calgary Buffaloes appeared in the most games, 23.

MANITOBA SENIOR LEAGUE
The Winnipeg Tribune reported :
Versatile Terry Sawchuk, of hockey fame, is the 1948 batting champion of the Manitoba Senior Baseball league. The transplanted first sacker of the Elmwood Giants clouted the ball for a mark of .376 in 27 games he took part to top the circuit by a wide margin.
Sawchuk, moved from first to third base, was at the plate 100 times and smacked out 41 safeties.
Closest rivals for Sawchuk's scalp, were two Brandon colored players. Thad Christopher, Greys backstop, was the runner up with .333, followed by Bus Quinn with .323. Other .300 hitters were Dave McConachy, Elmwood .316, Rollie Bouchard, Winnipeg Reos, .307 and Coney Williams, Brandon, .304. McRae also hit .300 but only took part in eleven games. Armando Vasquez of Brandon was top hurler during league play with a perfect 7-0 record. Teammate Jack Sinclair also won 7 games, dropping three decisions. Over-all, in league, tournament, exhibition and playoff games, Steve Wylie of the Greys was the ace with a 13-1 record.

SLOCAN-NAKUSP LEAGUE
Year-end statistics were made available in the Arrow Lakes News (Nakusp) for just two of the five teams - Nakusp and New Denver. Tamo Takenaka topped the New Denver hitters with a .486 average and led in both runs, 17, and stolen bases, 22. Mas (Cuke) Yamada was the runner-up with a .429 mark.
For Nakusp, Ken Highland sported a .571 average but did not acquire enough at bats to qualify for the team batting title. That went to Fred Desrochers who batted .432, besting Otto Yanagisawa, at .414.

COMOX DISTRICT BASEBALL LEAGUE
Catcher Andy Telosky of the Campbell River Athletics captured the 1948 batting title in the Comox District Baseball League with a .420 average in 81 at bats. Cumberland Robins centre-fielder Henry Watson was the runner-up, hitting an even .400. Another catcher, Paul Pezel of the Cumberland Cubs was third, at .370, edging Alex Annand of the Courtenay Young Liberals by two points. Spit Quinn of the Liberals rounded out the top five with a .364 mark. Quinn was the league's top hurler winning eight while dropping just one. Gordon Pratt of the Comox Valley Tigers had the most decisions, 12, winning six and losing six.

VICTORIA SENIOR AMATEUR LEAGUE
Bill Prior was the man in the spotlight as the Victoria Baseball Association released the final statistics for the 1948 season. The ace right-hander of Ben's Bombers not only topped the loop in pitching. with a 9-1 record and 2.44 ERA, he also captured the batting title, hitting .364, as he played every position except right field for ther pennant-winners. Prior also led the circuit with four home runs and 52 total bases. He tied with Len French of Pitzer & Nex for the most doubles, 8. Mel and Chester Padgett of the Navy nine, finished second and third in the batting race with marks of .361 and .357. Chester had the most runs batted in, 22, while Bernie Anderson of the Eagles had the most hits, 33, and led in stolen bases, with 25. Art Worth of the Boosters was the league's strikeout king with 131 in 119 innings of work. He also led in walks with 119

HALIFAX AND DISTRICT LEAGUE
In a batting race decided by just one point, Jack Kaiser of Kentville edged teammate Socrates Bobotas .389 to .388 to claim the title. A third member of the Wildcats, Dick Gernet finished third at .386. Bobotas led in hits, with 85, and runs, 49. Wilf Anderson, also of Kentville drove in the most runs, 51.
Novak Dominick of Kentville topped the moundsmen with a 10-0 won-lost record and league-leading 0.94 ERA. Jack Halpin of the Halifax Capitals and Skit Ferguson of the Shipyards tied for the most wins, each with 11.
