NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN LEAGUE
Delisle outfielder Dick Butler captured the batting crown of the 1950 Northern Saskatchewan League, besting Cy Rouse of the Saskatoon Cubs by 4-percentage points, .365 to .361.
Actually, Curtis Tate of the North Battleford Beavers had an average higher than Butler's and Paul Hrynkiw of the Colonsay Monarchs finished with exactly the same average as the Gems' fly shagger. However, neither Tate nor Hrynkiw participated in a sufficient number of league games to qualify for the batting championship.
Bob Herron of North Battleford, one of the leading hitters, was the league's top pitcher, topping the circuit with 8 wins and leading in games, games started and complete games. Bennie Griggs of Delisle had the best percentage with five wins and no losses.

(1) With the hits & at bats shown, Lillis should have been credited with a .410 average. Bradish was shown with 147 at bats, but with a .247 average, not .293 as would have resulted with his 43 hits. Quite likely a typo, 174 ABs, not 147.

William "Buddy" Condy, Halifax Shipyards outielder, repeated as batting champ for the second straight year according to final figures released by league statistician Aubrey Keizer. Condy connected for 93 hits in 260 at bats for a .358 average, edging teammate and fellow Nova Scotian Johnny Clark who compiled a .350 average. Manchester, New Hampshire product Stu O'Brien, Dartmouth's slugging catcher, was third at .337. Liverpool's own Mac Bowers and future major leaguer John "Zeke" Bella of the Arrows were the only others to top the .300 mark. Joe Lay, who shared outfield duties with Bella, hit .314 but his 169 at bats were not enough to qualify. Clark was the league's top base-stealer and O'Brien led in home runs (16) and RBIs (53).
The Shipyards staff dominated the pitching statistics. Clark was among the league's top hurlers posting the best earned run average, 1.66, just a notch ahead of teammate Gene Savard, at 1.75. A third member of the staff, Jack Halpin, led the circuit in wins, with 13, registered the most strikeouts, 117, and was the league workhorse, with 129 innings pitched. Ray Chirurgi of Kentville had the best won-lost record, .909 from his 10-1 record.
