WESTERN CANADA BASEBALL LEAGUE
Calgary third baseman Tim Cullen was the hitting star of the 1963 Western Canada League claiming the circuit's triple crown with the batting championship, the lead in home runs and a share of the lead in runs batted in. The 21-year-old product of Santa Clara University finished the season with a .345 average, 19 homers and 62 RBI. Edmonton's Gary Sutherland and Howard Martin of Medicine hat were the runners-up in the batting race with a .335 marks. Harry Laiolo, catcher for Lethbridge, tied Cullen in the run production category. Martin was tops in steals with 19 and runs scored, 56. Of Cullen's 101 hits, 42 went for extra bases. He added 19 doubles and four triples.
A pair of highly-touted right-handers and a fire-balling lefty, walked off with most of the pitching honours. Edmonton Oiler righty Walt Peterson (5-3) had the best earned run average, 1.40, with teammate lefty Tom Pederson (9-8) right behind at 1.98. Calgary Giant right-hander Nelson Briles was the top winner with an 11-4 won-lost record and was third in ERA at 2.47. Terry Christman of Lethbridge, was second in wins taking 10 of 14 decisions. Pederson worked the most innings (132 1/3) while Briles was far ahead in strikeouts with 184 and topped the league in complete games, 13.

Wally Blaisdell, outfielder and pitcher with the Moose Jaw Regals, is the 1963 Southern League batting champion. Final statistics show the veteran diamond performer with a gaudy .373 average. The runner-up position went to Gary Franklin of the Regina Red Sox who finished with a .363 average. Larry Bachiu of the Red Sox was third, coming in with a .360 mark.
Wayne LeBere of Moose Jaw and Al Ash of Regina each had 7 wins to tie for the league lead. LeBere finished at 7-0, Ash 7-2.

NORTHERN SASKATCHEWAN BASEBALL LEAGUE
Ken Hoyt of the Unity Cardinals was declared the 1963 batting champion of the Northern Saskatchewan League. Hoyt finished with a .413 average to best Curly Williams of Lloydminster who batted .391. Jim Wiley of Kindersley Klippers, the 1962 batting champ, was third, at .384. Neil Urlacher of Neilburg Monarchs topped the league in home runs, with 8, runs, 27, and runs batted in, 23. He tied Wiley for the most hits, each with 33. Larry Flicek of Neilburg had 11 stolen bases to top that category.
Bennie Griggs of North Battleford was the leading pitcher with a .769 percentage winning ten games and losing three. Cliff Mein of Lloydminster had the most wins, 12.
The Lloydminster results were the most under-reported as 11 of the Green Caps home games were missing from the final statistics.

MANITOBA SENIOR LEAGUE
Tommy Town, Brandon first sacker, has run away with the batting crown in the Manitoba Senior League, with a .436 average. Injured for the last part of the season, Town just squeezed onto the eligible list with 55 at bats, one above the minimum required. A pair of Riverside Blues finished back of Town. Barry Moffatt finished at .380 and topped the league in hits, withy 38, and tied for the lead in runs, with 18. Garth Seafoot was third, hitting .370. Bob Thompson of St. Lazare, who was fourth, with a .368 mark, had the most runs batted in, 19.
Bill Cundiff of the St. Lazare Athletics led in almost every pitching category compiling nine wins in 13 decision, tossing 106 innings with 170 strikeouts. Cundiff had began a pro career in 1961 losing all of his eight decisions, then finished 5-11 in 1962.

His Red Sox teammate Ted Baker led in home runs, with 6. Murray Oliver of the Galt Terriers had the most stolen bases, 15.

BASIN LEAGUE
Alan Montreuil, shortstop for the Valentine Hearts, fled the Basin League in hitting with a .370 batting average and in runs scored, with 49. He was second in doubles, with 12. A student at Loyola of the South, Montreuil was also among the leaders in runs batted in, with 37, and home runs, 7. He was one of five players to play in all of his team's 48 Basin League games. Montreuil was also named the league's Most Valuable Player. Bill Davis, first baseman of the Pierre Cowboys, was the runner-up. Davis, of the University of Minnesota, at 6' 6" and 215 pounds, was the biggest player in the league. Valentine's Al Closter, Iowa State, and Bobby Bragan, Mississippi State, of Sturgis Titans, tied for third.
Douglas Pautz and Carl Morton of Winner and Frank Peters of Valentine each had 10 home runs to top the loop. Pautz had the most runs batted in, 44.
Larry Sheckman of Pierre, with a 9-1 record, had the best pitching mark. He also led in strikeouts with 113. Al Closter of Valentine had the top earned run average, 2.14, and led in innings, 105 1/3. He finished with 8 wins in 11 decisions.
