The Long Island University star helped the Blackbirds to back-to-back conference titles in 1963 and 1964. He won a spot on the all-Metro team twice and in 1963 hit a school record .533 to lead the team to a 15-1-2 mark.
He was draft by the Detroit Tigers and had an eight-year pro career. in 1970, Kalafatis clouted 28 homers and knocked in 92 for Toledo of the International League. He became a lawyer and sports agent. Kalafatis died in 1995 at age 50.
