The Broadview Buffalos repeated as Southern Saskatchewan League pennant-winners in 1938 but bypassed any playoffs as the circuit ended prematurely at the end of July. The Weyburn Beavers, without playing a single playoff game, were handed the provincial title by default following a playing date dispute with the Wilkie Outlaws, the northern representative.
Vancouver winners in 1938 were United Distillers Limited (Senior City League), Merritt-Gordon Hotel (Commercial League) and the Asahis (Burrard League). The Nippons went on to defeat Merritt-Gordon three games straight in an inter-league challenge series. Kamloops captured the B.C. Interior League title and the Trail Cardinals went undefeated in league play but were upset by the Cinderella Rossland Miners in the West Kootenay League finals.

After eleven consecutive face-to-face playoff matches against their arch-rivals from Lethbridge, Picture Butte’s hustling ball club finally disposed of the Galt Miners by whipping their adversaries 5 to 2 to take possession of the Alberta senior baseball championship for 1938.
